Nova pear is a versatile desert pear ripening in early September. It is a self fertile pear that produces abundant harvests. Nova has a firm silky texture to its flesh making it an excellent canning pear. It is good for fresh eating and baking. It stores in a refrigerator for only about a month so if some fruit ripens more slowly leave it on the tree. Nova turns a lighter yellow when fully ripe. If you like a crisp pear eat it off the tree a week early. It is a cold hardy tree that produces reliably in Zone 4.
