McIntosh was discovered by John McIntosh on his farm near the St. Lawrence river in 1811. It has been an important apple in the northeast since 1930. This strain of McIntosh is a green apple with red areas or stripes. It produces annual crops good for fresh eating and makes a great sauce. It is a well shaped easy to maintain tree. It is not a good storage apple. Zone 4-6, bloom group 2
